The boys considered the site“naff” and it also scandalised the senior Middleburgh matriarch who questioned editorial policy and my parentage. Apparently the site refered to a matter of public record, which surprisingly she had no prior knowledge and with which she didn’t want to be associated.
All this came to mind this week, as I reinitialized the site logs in preparation to giving the site a much needed “make over”.
To put traffic in perspective: The last posting was made last May whennthere were an awesome 4 hits/day, mostly blogger “drive by’s” and search engine “drop ins”. Thereafter traffic collapsed and by February we bottom'd at a staggering 1 visit every other day, with the exception of a spike in October when the night porter caught up with his reading. Traffic has recently lifted as a result of site maintence.
Although the site has never been SEO’d, at least 2 cousins and an ex colleague have stumbled onto it. Its worth consdering that if you google “Middleburgh” approx 794,000 results are returned , most of which are for Middleburgh Scholarie County NY; Even if these are excluded by filtering results containing “NY” or “York” there are still 22,900 returned. Cousin Charles Middleburgh's home page comes in at position 2 in Google and 6 in Yahoo. I don’t even get in top 100 for Google although I get positions 8 & 9 in Yahoo. Thumbshots
